Specialized Bicycles recently hosted a contest entitled Innovate or Die, in which contestants were encouraged to create a machine that is powered by pedals and “transforms pedal energy into new and useful purposes.”

The Winner, shown in the video above, is definitely worth a prize. What a great idea! Way to go guys!

On their website, Dynamic Bicycle invites you to ” Discover the fun and freedom of a chainless bicycle.” That sounds great to us! Oh, to be without that constant menace to velocommuters, the nasty chain. We would love to be free of the bike chain forever (if even just for our commuter bikes anyway!). Where do we sign up?

The only problem we can foresee is that the drives have problems down the road - but what velocommuter’s steed of choice doesn’t have drivetrain issues?

The only problem we have would be which of Dynamic’s bicycles to purchase. Only one bicycle we found came with optional fenders, but they did not appear to match the bike in any special way. Don’t they want people to look good out there?

We think we might get one of these when they sell one with a flame job on the fenders!
